Opening in March 2009 is our canine fitness studio which will
feature the 'FitFurLife' professional veterinary doggie treadmill.
The treadmill can be used purely for giving your dog a gym style workout that will
aid their general and cardio vascular fitness and also tone the various muscle groups.
As important as the general fitness of your pet can be the rehabilitation
following illness or surgery when regular use of the treadmill in a controlled
environment can aid your dog's return to full health. Rehabilitation work must be by referral
from your vet with whom we will work closely in designing a programme specifically for your dog.
Another important side of our work at our fitness centre is with overweight and obese
dogs where in conjunction with dietary advice we will supervise a regulated exercise
programme that will see your dog return to a healthy weight.
We will use veterinary standard scales to keep a regular check on weight and also take your dogs measurements.
Your individual client card will show you the times and speeds and settings that your
pet has achieved each week, the card will also show weight and measurements on a weekly basis.
Most dogs take to the treadmill very quickly
(we use a treat based reward system which ensures most dogs look forward to their new exercise regime).
Our bookings are based on a 20 minute session though in the early few sessions your dog may only do a few
minutes on the treadmill, every dog is different and we always start off our programmes in a very
slow structured way, our aim being to build your dog up into coping with a 15 minute varied
session using very slow warm up then building up speed, gradually introducing inclines
and declines and adjusting speed in accordance with their fitness and ability.
Sessions are charged in 1x20 minute slots and discounts are given when bulk sessions of 10, 20, or 30 are booked.
Our recommendation is a minimum of 3 sessions per week to obtain significant results in all areas (again with rehab work this will be decided in conjunction with your vet).
